The Sequoyah Book Awards program encourages the students of Oklahoma to read books of literary quality. The books on the Sequoyah Masterlists are selected by the Sequoyah Reading Team for literary excellence and appropriateness of content for the age group. Students in grades 3-6 who have read or heard three or more books on the list vote for their favorite via the Internet and this determines the recipient of the Sequoyah Children’s Book Award. The first Sequoyah Children’s book award was given in April 1959.
Our KES Sequoyah Book Club is for students in grades 3rd through 5th. Our club meets on Thursdays after school from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. All members are required to read a minimum of 3 books from the 2016 Sequoyah Masterlist and are encouraged to read all the books on the list. Click on the Masterlist link below for a list of the books.
