Kingston Band Competiton

Kingston Communication Class
Fifteen kids in the Kingston Band won Superior medals at Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association District Contest. Vinny Butler, Lexie Grandstaff, Sean Conway, Randell Edison and Caidence Clemens scored a Superior rating with their percussion piece. The Marimba Trio of Lexie Grandstaff, Sean Conway and Christina Jones all scored Superior and won medals. Aleah Taylor, Isabel Mireles, Trinity Holland and Cailin Stauffer also won Superior and won medals.
The three soloists were Trinity Holland, Aleah Taylor and Isabel Mireles who also earned Superior ratings. The Saxophone Quartet consisting of: Brittany Walker, Cailin Stauffer, Payton McElroy and Maddison Thomas also won Superior and earned medals. The tuba solo of Christina Jones earned Superior and Cole Stepp’s trumpet solo earned an Excellent. They are all going to State competition in April.
“These students absolutely earned the opportunity to compete at the State level. They did most of the work themselves including scheduling and running rehearsals. We are very excited to have this many students going to State.” Band Director Jon Dohrer stated.
Others who scored a rating of Excellent were a Brass Trio of Nathan White, Sean Conway and Christina Jones. As well as a Flute Ensemble that consisted of Trinity Holland, Ericka Cryer, Alex Countryman, Terriona King, Brittany Smith and Rebekah Smith.
The Kingston High School Band scored a rating of Excellent at the OSSAA (Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association) contest. Bands are rated 1-5 on a panel of 3 judges. The Kingston High school band scored a 2.
“These students were disappointed not to make a 1 and I’m glad they are not happy with a 2, but the truth is they did a great job preparing and Ms. Braden and I are very proud of them. I see great things in their future.” The band directors of the Kingston Band are Jon Dohrer and Caitlyn Braden.
