Kingston students make strong showing at livestock show

MADILL — Kingston agriculture educator Chris McGowan is excited about his students' showing at the recent livestock show. He's even more enthusiastic about their prospects for future events.
Twenty Kingston animals were selected for the premium sale at the Marshall County Junior Livestock Show last week at the county fairgrounds. That number included a Grand Champion and two reserve Champions.
McGowan said that outing is just the beginning of achievements for the Kingston agriculture program.
"I'm tickled to death about how we did, but we're going to do even better next year," McGowan said. "This experience is going to help us — not just the kids, but me, too. i'm learning how things work in Marshall County."
Maria Loving earned the Grand Champion designation for her wether goat, and Brad Tucker's wether took Reserve in the category. Kes Reeves Maine Steer was also designated Reserve Grand.
An additional 27 students placed, some with multiple animals.
Two students, Teri Jo Kelly and Aaron King, won $250 scholarships at the livestock show.
McGowan said several students plan to continue on to the Oklahoma Youth Expo.
"Some of them have a chance to do pretty well — we have some pretty strong animals," he said.
