Redskins fourth in Wilson powerlifting meet

WILSON — Coaches were pleased with the Kingston powerlifting team's performance in its first meet of the year last week in Wilson.
The Redskins placed fourth among 17 participating teams, led by the dominant performance of 123-pounder Jamie Furister. The returning state qualifier not only won his division in total pounds, but also won all three individual events.
"He scored 24 points by himself," coach John Caraway said. "He scored 6 points in the bench press, 6 in the squat, and 6 in the dead lift, and then he scored 6 more for winning the overall."
Furister was among five Redskins who placed in the meet. Dalton Blankenship placed third at 220 pounds, Dalton Williams was fourth at 192, Joseph Moreno took fourth at 135 and Keldon Risinger placed fifth at 135.
Five of the 17 Redskins who competed at Wilson placed, and Caraway said he hopes to see that number increase as the team builds momentum heading toward regional competition.
"That was pretty good, for our first meet," the coach said. "It kind of gives us a measuring stick."
The Redskins will next compete at Antlers Feb. 1.
