On April 18, many members of the Kingston High School Band traveled to Oklahoma State University to participate in the 2017 OSSAA State Solo and Ensemble Contest. All KHS groups who went received either a Superior (I) or Excellent (II) rating.

Trinity Holland received a I on her flute solo. Jonas McGahey, Sean Conway, Raul Puente, Caidence Clemens, and Hunter Glenn were rated a I on their percussion ensemble. Bass trio of Chase Pittman, Clayton Davis, and Vinny Butler received a I. A percussion ensemble of Jonas McGahey, Georgia Burns, Sean Conway, Raul Puente, Lora Newton, and Caidence Clemons received a II. Allie Degraw, Gabe Silva, and Aleah Taylor received a II on their woodwind trio.

They ended up leaving successful with 9 Superior and 10 Excellent medals.

“I was delighted, but completely unsurprised to have that many students earn medals at state. They have the musical ability, and then they combined that with time and effort. Additionally, no one earned lower than an excellent rating, which is outstanding,” stated Kingston Band Director Jon Dohrer.
